Dr. Rathmell Pelotonia Welcome Video
Dr. Rathmell is excited to ride 24 miles on Team Buckeye and alongside many of you on August 2. She will also be a key speaker during the Opening Ceremony stage program on August 1.
She has loved cycling since childhood, growing up in rural Iowa. This love has continued through today — as transportation to work, healthy exercise outdoors, and now, training for Pelotonia.
Energized By This Community
“I chose to come to The James because I was looking for a place where I could be part of a really big mission. I found that at Ohio State, there was already a community — a lot of that was built around Pelotonia.”
W. Kimryn Rathmell, MD, PhD
CEO, The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute
Commitment to a Cancer-Free World
Dr. Rathmell most recently served as Director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). As CEO of The James at Ohio State, she oversees both the clinical and research missions of Ohio State’s cancer program. She will also hold the Jeri B. Block and Robert H. Schottenstein Distinguished Chair in Cancer, pending Ohio State Board of Trustees approval.
A kidney cancer specialist in medical oncology, she also plans to maintain a research lab and help mentor the next generation of cancer experts.
In addition, she’ll further her focus on raising awareness of early-onset cancer and ensuring access to high-quality cancer care for all — taking research-based care to underserved rural and urban areas.
