Pelotonia Kids is a series of kids cycling events to engage the next generation of Pelotonia participants. In collaboration with The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC—James), 100 percent of every Pelotonia Kids participant-raised dollar will be directed to innovative pediatric cancer research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Team Buckeye, a 17-year super peloton for Pelotonia, is adding a Pelotonia Kids ride to its lineup:
Biking with Brutus! Team Buckeye has raised more than $40 million in all-time funds.
Biking with Brutus is set for Sunday, July 27, on the Fred Beekman Park Trail. The park address is 2200 Carmack Rd, Columbus, OH 43210.
Each event is uniquely local, planned by Pelotonia community members with support from the organization, including event logistics, equipment rentals, promotional materials, and branded merchandise. Ride formats vary by location, with routes designed to accommodate a wide range of ages and abilities.
This ride was created by
Julie Kennerly-Shah , 7-year Rider and a pharmacist at The James at Ohio State. After her two sons participated in a Pelotonia Kids ride in 2024, Julie felt moved to expand the opportunity, encouraging more children to get involved and helping raise funds for pediatric cancer research.
“Partnering with Team Buckeye to organize Biking with Brutus felt like the natural next step. I work every day at The James Cancer Hospital. My husband, Summit, cares for children with cancer at Nationwide Children’s. The fact that the Kids Ride directly supports cancer research at Nationwide makes this personal for both of us—professionally and as parents.”
- Julie Kennerly-Shah
Julie’s sons Oliver (age 5) and Emmett (age 6) are ready to ride and join Pelotonia’s mission.
“Our family rides in Pelotonia every year, and now it’s our turn to help, too! We want to be part of the mission to cure cancer. We’ve seen how hard our parents work, and how much it matters. So, this summer, we’re riding our bikes in our own kid version of Pelotonia to raise money and show we care.”
- Oliver and Emmett
Check-in for Biking with Brutus starts at 2:00pm, and the ride begins at 2:30pm. The route consists of a one-mile loop on the Fred Beekman Park Trail. The ride will start on the south side of the parking lot along the trail and finish just past the Pelotonia Research Center.
Children age 8 and younger are welcome to participate. Younger participants can be pushed in strollers, or ride scooters or tricycles. While there’s no registration fee, a $25 donation per Rider is encouraged.
If you’d like to volunteer to setup, assist during the ride, or help with clean
